Architecture Week

Welcome to Auckland Architecture Week 2009.

We are celebrating Architecture Week this year with a variety of activities over the week in a number of locations: exhibitions, movies, talk and discussions covering a range of topics that fit broadly within the field of architecture and the built environment.

Venues for activities are in and around the Auckland CBD. See the map on this site for exact locations.

In addition to exhibitions and talks on architecture, we are fortunate to have a mini movie festival at Academy Cinemas supported by Jasmax. Check out the Films page for the titles and schedule.

Since we first loaded the site with the programme there has been a great response to the New City Buildings Site visits and all 60 places are now filled.  We would like to be able to accommodate more people, but there are logistical issues and we are very grateful to those building owners and tenants who are accommodating the visits of those who registered quickly.

We have made three changes to the programme since going to print, for those of you who have seen the flier:

1. The launch of Architecture Week at the Union Fish Building, 116 Quay Street  is at  5.45pm on Monday 12 October and includes a lecture by Rachel de Lambert .  Following that there will be time to have a a glass of wine and look at the three exhibitions there.

2. Saturday Sessions: Discourse and Dialogue: We have an additional session at 3.10pm at the Ellen Melville Hall: Professor Tim Hazledine and Kobus Mentz on Transport and Urbanism.

3. Saturday Sessions: Discourse and Dialogue: Dr Mags Adams has had to cancel, but instead Zoe Zimmerman will talk on green roofs - Living roof Benefits.

Nearly all the events are free and booking is only required for the Auckland Awards, the building visits and to movies at the Academy.

Architecture Week would not be possible without help from our sponsors listed in the panel adjacent. Our thanks go to all of them.

For further  events and  reading on related fields in the arts, architecture and the city, see the Links page.

Enjoy the week.
